Meetings & Events

Editor's Message

We will be working diligently to meet the objectives of this organization which are to increase the effectiveness of women in the cause of good government through political education and active political participation; support objectives and policies of both the Nevada and National Federations of Republican Women; foster loyalty to the Republican Party and to promote its principles; work for the election of Republican Party nominees; and select topics which interest the organization and focus on legislation to interact with our elected officials within the state and nation.

To accomplish these objectives, we need the participation of all our members and strongly encourage each to join at least one of our committees.  A description of duties and responsibilities can be found in the Handbook distributed to each member and updated each March.  I am certain you will find at least one that fits your interests, talents and abilities.
Just a few are featured below.

If you are not currently a member of the Fernley Republican Women and are just checking us out, come to a meeting and see for yourself what we are all about.

Americanism Committee

The Fernley Republican Women (FRW) is committed to fostering Americanism and Literacy in the local schools. To that end, on September 14, 2022 pocket constitutions were delivered by Americanism chair Judy Williams, Pam Duckering and Peggy Gray to Fernley Intermediate School and Silver Stage Middle School for distribution to each 5th grade student in preparation for national Constitution Day.  Candace McCarthy delivered the constitutions to 5th grade students at Yerington Intermediate School.

Armed Forces/Homeland Security

Fernley Republican Women also collect "wish list" items for the Veterans Guest House in Reno.  Items include fresh fruits and vegetables, food staples, personal care products, socks and gloves and money.  The Veterans Guest House provides family members a free place to stay while the veterans are receiving medical care in a Reno hospital.

Literacy Committee

The Fernley Republican Women (FRW) is committed to fostering literacy in the community and promoting Americanism in the schools.  Each September, we participate in the National Federation of Republican Women’s Literacy Month by sponsoring literacy projects.

On September 21, 2022 Peggy Gray presented "The Best Dictionary for Students" to each third grade student at Cottonwood Elementary School.  Accompanied by staff, they talked about literacy in three of the five classrooms.

Four books were also presented to the school library:
  • Veterans: Heroes in our Neighborhood by Valerie Pfundstein
  • Counting on Katherine: How Katherine Johnson Saved Apollo 13 by Helaine Becker
  • Mae Among the Stars by Roda Ahmed
  • Pocahontas and the Strangers by Clyde Robert Bulla
Pictured below are (left to right) Mrs. Bunyard and Mrs. Elson's classes and Peggy Gray and Ms. Jurich.

On the same day, books were donated to Bow Wow Books, an organization that teamed up with the Fernley Library.  Bow Wow Reading Dogs are nonjudgmental certified therapy dogs who listen to children reading aloud.  The dogs' handlers have been educated on how to help readers learn to read.
